Fresh off her multiple Emmy nominations, Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum, I May Destroy You) has joined the cast of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to 2018’s Black Panther. Coel is the first new addition announced for the MCU sequel, with Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Angela Bassett all reprising their roles from the original film. Ryan Coogler, who also directed the first Black Panther installment, will return to direct the sequel, which is currently in production in Atlanta, GA.
Details of Coel’s character is being kept under wraps, of course, though it’s heavily rumored she could be playing Ororo Munroe, aka the X-Men’s Storm. As Phase 4 of the MCU marches toward the presence of mutants, it’s been widely speculated that members of the X-Men will be introduced one at a time before forming the actual team of mutant superheroes. If this is the case, Coel would be a dream come true as the noble weather goddess.
