With the transformation of Jason Todd to Red Hood, the upcoming season of Titans is certain to be an ambitious one. In addition to Red Hood, the show will also be introducing famed Batman villain Scarecrow (Vincent Kartheiser) as well as former Batgirl herself, Barbara Gordon. Barbara will be played by Savannah Welch (The Transcendents) and we now have our first look of her interacting with Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson.

As you can see by the first-look image released by EW, we are getting the post-Killing Joke version of Barbara Gordon, so she will be wheelchair-bound as a result of a nasty run-in with The Joker. Barbara will reportedly be the new Police Commissioner of Gotham City, where the Titans relocate following the tragic events of the season two finale. She will also be rekindling her romance with Dick, as well as work with the Titans to bring down Scarecrow, as well as the extraterrestrial threat of Blackfire (Damaris Lewis). It is unknown as of yet if she will be assuming the Oracle supehero mantle she eventually takes up in the comic books.

Welch is the third actress to portray a live-action version of the character. She is preceded by Dina Meyer who played the role in 2002’s Bird of Prey television series for The WB, as well as Yvonne Craig who originated the role in season 3 of the Batman television series in 1967.

Barbara will be introduced in the season 3 premiere, which is set to drop on HBO Max, along with two other episodes, on August 12. Season 3 will consist of 13 episodes, released every Thursday following the premiere. Titans also stars Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Alan Ritchson, Mika Kelly, and Conor Leslie.
