Netflix’s global phenom, Stranger Things, has long been known for it’s complex strong female characters, and now two of them are stepping up to get their own spin-off project. In conjunction with Netflix, Penguin Random House has released Stranger Things: One Way or Another: A Nancy Wheeler Mystery, a new novel that takes place in the year-and-a-half gap between seasons four and five of the series.

Written by Caitlin Schoolneiderhan, the story features aspiring journalist Nancy Wheeler (played by Natalia Dyer in the show) once again teaming up with Robin Buckley (played by Maya Hawke) delving into another Hawkins mystery. The official synopsis for the book reads:

“Hawkins, Indiana, is in recovery. It’s been two months since Vecna’s earthquake tore through the town, and its residents are still reeling from the devastation. Nancy Wheeler has spent every waking minute on the hunt for Vecna, but he’s continued to elude her. How can she head to Emerson for college in the fall if Hawkins is still under the influence of the Upside Down?

When fellow classmate Joey Taft starts acting shifty at graduation, Nancy is convinced Vecna’s found his newest victim. Joined by fellow amateur sleuth Robin Buckley, Nancy doesn’t waste any time questioning Joey. What the girls discover leads them down the path of a bigger story than The Hawkins Post could ever have assigned Nancy.”

Taking the lead in her own book series seems like a natural evolution for Nancy, as Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers have previously stated Dyer’s character is loosely based on Heather Langenkamp’s iconic final girl Nancy Thompson from The Nightmare on Elm Street film series. With the release of this novel, it seems like she might also be following in the footsteps of yet another famous Nancy—Drew.

Stranger Things: One Way or Another: A Nancy Wheeler Mystery is currently available everywhere books are sold.
